About The ABC Learning Centre The ABC Learning Centre was founded in 2006 with just three students. Today it has grown to accomodate pupils ranging from Primary One to Secondary Two. Our Courses We teach all the main primary school subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. Our two main and most popular courses are "Reading Clinic", a targetted literary program for preschoolers or children with learning disabilities; and "Learning Stations" which are individually personalised curriculum for children from 4 years old up to PSLE students. Our Learning Stations We schedule our pupils so that we can provide the necessary one-to-one time with each child. These sessions are our "Learning Stations" and they are EFFECTIVE because they are PERSONALISED and they are SIMPLY LOVED by Kids. The focus of Learning Stations is always on WHAT does the student understand; NOT what we can teach. Student workbooks, exercises and resource materials used for teaching are customised to each child's level and are progressively advanced as the rate of learning and competence picks up. Why It Works The success of our Learning Stations is premised on a single basic concept - that ALL children wish to excel and possess the capacity for self-motivation and study discipline. On this premise, we don't coach the child to GET the right answers; instead we teach them the skills that empower them to solve problems themselves. Each child learns at his or her own pace in a supported and secure environment where the reward is the sense of achievement they receive when they improve their scores. In our interactions with each child, our goal is always to help them feel confident, secure in their abilities and a sense of accomplishment in what they have achieved. We believe that this is the key to self motivation. Kids just want to feel good about themselves. Exam Preparation We believe in BEING PREPARED. Towards this end, we generally finish final year preparation by June. Each child will be given a personalised program based on his/her strengths and weaknesses. We do not believe that giving more work in areas where he/she is weak is beneficial to him/her. In fact, we have dfound that doing so only promotes anxiety and resentment in the child. Rates & Charges We are not the cheapest learning centre in town but we believe that our charges are reasonable for the amount of value we provide. We charge according to the number of times your child attends our Learning Stations and the number of hours spent on one-to-one attention. Generally, expect to pay a fee ranging from $300 per month upwards. Discounted rates apply for children from low income families and for siblings who also attend our centre. Children with Special Needs I have a strong record of successes teaching children with learning disabilities such as Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD and dyslexia.
